Sweet and Spicy sauteed Green Beans

This is a healthy but super-tasty side that will knock you upside the head.  Spicy, sweet, and sour, it has all the elements to wow your tongue.  Increase the chili flakes for more spice, increase the sugar for more sweet, but don’t add too much lemon or you will look like a girl puckering her lips for her FB profile pic.

Ingredients
  • 1/2 lb of Green Beans – stems removed
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon red chili flakes
  • 1 garlic clove minced
  • Juice of 1/2 lemon
Directions
  • Bring a pot of water to boil
  • Drop green beans in water and boil for 1-2 minutes, then remove from water
  • In hot saute pan, add butter and olive oil
  • Once butter has melted, add green beans and garlic and let saute for 1-2 minutes to crisp up skin (make sure garlic does not burn)
  • Add sugar, chili flakes, and lemon juice
  • Cook for an additional 4-5 minutes, or until green beans are cooked through. Add dashes of water if the mixture dries up too much.
